South West shows support for surfing in Senegal
The south west surfing community came together recently to support locally run initiative Surfboards for Senegal.
The aim was to send 250 boards to Senegal, where there's a budding surfing community but limited access to gear, to help local kids take ownership of their breaks as tourism continues to build in the region.
The word went out for second hand sticks, fins and other gear and the response was unreal, with the 262 boards, 190 sets of fins, 250 wetsuits, and 170 leg ropes sent to Senegal.
Bungalow Social, one of our fav spots in Dunsborough, hosted Boards for Beers, where everyone could donate some gear (and get a Shelter for their trouble!). A raffle of generously donated goods raised a further $3,200 for the cause.
Shout out to the project organiser Alistair Johnson for making it happen!
